August 22-24, 2014 – Summer Bliss: A Yoga Retreat with Dina Ivas

dinasized

Description

Escape the stress of the city for a fun weekend of serenity in nature. Treat yourself to 3-days of energizing and restorative yoga sessions, locally-grown fresh gourmet food, and blissful surroundings. Bring a good book, a bathing suit, a beach towel, and bask in the lush green fields, take a dip in the swimming pond, or gently sway into a soothing nap on the hammock. In the evening, enjoy s’mores around the bonfire, unwind in the hot tub, or sip wine under the starry skies. All-levels welcome.

About Dina

It took Dina a while to discover her inner ‘yogi.’ A former competitive gymnast, she earned her certification in Group Exercise in 2002, and headed to NYC to begin sharing her love of movement. The pressures of city life left her feeling totally unbalanced, and it was then that she discovered yoga. In 2010, Dina completed the 200-hour teacher training program at Sonic Yoga, becoming a certified Vinyasa Yoga teacher. She strives to offer classes that challenge the body and the mind, yet are fun, not intimidating, and accessible to all levels. She encourages students to explore on the mat, and keeps the mood lighthearted with great playlists and creative sequencing. Her approach to teaching yoga is embodied in three simple words: Breathe. Play. Grow. Dina is excited to host her first retreat at Heathen Hill, having recently returned from leading a 5-day retreat in Puerto Rico this February. She loves taking the practice of yoga out of the concrete jungle of NYC, where students can unplug, unwind and explore. For more about Dina, visit: www.yogawithdina.com

About Ellen Kaplow

E-RYT… Satsang Yoga creative director, YogaManJari Teacher Training

Ellen has been a well sought after ACE certified fitness instructor, Teacher- trainer and Group Fitness Director for over 25 years. She discovered Yoga (or Yoga found her) over 18 years ago and the rest as they say… is history. In the words of Rodney Yee, “We come to Yoga either from inspiration or out of desperation & for Ellen it was both.” After meeting her dear friend and mentor, Pam Flynn of Shakti Yoga, Ellen knew that this was a path she was meant to follow. Ellen completed an Anusara style teacher training with Molly Fox and Amy Ippoliti and is registered with the Yoga Alliance. She has studied extensively with Baron Baptiste, Sharon Gannon and David Life of Jivamukti Yoga, Maty Ezratry and Chuck Miller, Nancy Gilgoff, Lino Miele, Ana Forrest, Beryl Bender Birch , John Friend, Kofi Buscia, Christina Sell and Noah Maze’ and as of this Sept. Nikki Costello….so many wonderful teachers along the way.

She continues to study with and be inspired by her primary teacher Rodney Yee, (completing advanced teacher trainings with Rodney first in 2003 and each year since). Ellen has been included and has had the privilege of being part of a small retreat here at Heathen Hill open only to Rod’s senior students . (and not those who are AARP members). Being at Heathen Hill with Rodney, Colleen, Lippy and the rest of the crew..esteemed teachers in their own right, while doing what i love …is truly a gift. it has been an amazing journey!

Ellen‘s classes are a perfect blend of alignment, vinyasa and fun. Each experience is meant to allow the individual to discover his/her greatest potential. Ellen is grateful every day for the inspiration of her students and fellow instructors, the gift of Practice, her devoted staff and the love of her family (her three fabulous children, husband Rick and her 3 sweet pups. Ellen would also like to give a special shout out to Sally Narkis for urging her to step into the world of Teacher Training and retreats and to Connie Schaffer for opening this amazing studio with her over 10 years ago!

Marisa Sako – Summer Sattva Part Deux – June 4 – 6 2010

Title: Marisa Sako – Summer Sattva Part Deux

Location: Heathen Hill

Description:

Come away upstate to lush pastures overlooking a gorgeous green valley. Unwind, relax, reinvigorate. Revel in four of Marisa’s energizing and creative vinyasa yoga classes with emphasis on alignment and ending with deeply restorative savasanas. Enjoy home-cooked goodness fresh from the organic garden and eggs courtesy of the Heathen Hill hens. Spend your time in between classes doing what brings you into balance. Take a swim, do a handstand or two off the dock, practice walking meditation in the labyrinth, admire the flower beds, play Bocci/badminton/horseshoes, or simply lounge under a shady tree with a good book. Explore the middle path if you wish to sip a glass of wine in the hot-tub, star-gaze and toast marshmallows on the campfire. Fall asleep in the quaint farmhouse or snug in your tent to the sound of crickets. Wake up refreshed and ready for more.

About Marisa

Marisa teaches vinyasa yoga at Kula Yoga Project, Bend & Bloom, Shambhala Yoga & Dance, and Om Factory.
Her classes are slow-flowing but intense, creative but safe, challenging but never competitive.
After completing her 200-hour certification in 2006, she found her way to Kula, where she learned to elongate the breath cycles and take a moment to let herself be in really intense places while finding comfort in the sonorous ujjayi breath in the room.
She has studied a good deal of anatomy, first with Neuromuscular Therapist Susan Hefner and then with yoga anatomy educator Leslie Kaminoff. She completed a 75-hour advanced training with Schuyler Grant in 2009, who has been one of her most influential teachers. Schuyler, along with her fellow teachers of Kula Yoga Project, have helped her learn how to bring alignment and bandha work into the vinyasa flow. By the time this retreat rolls around, Marisa will have finished her 500-hour certification with Alison West, who is also teaching Marisa yoga for backcare.
In her teaching, Marisa manages to geek out on alignment in just the right dose as to not disrupt the flow. And through this flow, she passes onto her students what yoga has given her: the use of the breath as a bridge between the body and the mind, as well as a way to imbue action with mindfulness and heart through this moving meditation. Each day, her student amaze, humble, and inspire her, and for this she is grateful.

Transportation is separate. Last time, we shared the cost rental cars, gas, and tolls which came to $90/person. If you have a car and would be willing to car pool, please let me know. Car owners get hooked up with a $25 discount on the retreat and they don’t have to chip in for gas or tolls.

Start Date: June 4, 2010
End Date: June 6, 2010
