2019 Past Retreats

FRANK RICCI APRIL 12th – 14th, 2019

After leaving behind a career in the New York fashion industry, Frank Ricci was ready to find inner peace. What began as a casual yoga practice quickly became his passion. As Frank found his own calming balance and soon realized the tremendous benefits of this age-old form of wellness, he also found his true career calling: to help heal others.

Frank received his yoga teaching certificate from The Yogasana Center of Yoga in Brooklyn, New York, where he began teaching in 2010. Since that time, he has received extensive training in Therapeutic yoga, including assisting Deborah Wolk. He studies regularly with his mentors and has had the pleasure and privilege of studying with Donald Moyer of The Yoga Room. In 2011, Frank’s quest for deeper professional training led him to India, where he completed a five-week course studying Iyengar Yoga from Rajiv and Swati Chanchani. Frank’s compassionate teaching style draws influence from Iyengar Yoga as well as modalities such as Alexander Technique, creating a unique experience for his students that is both encouraging and challenging.

BRETTE POPPER and CYNTHIA KLING APRIL 26th – 28th, 2019

Brette Popper believes yoga, like writing, is a process of self-inquiry. Her alignment-based NYC classes emphasize a combination of movement with a healthy dose of yoga philosophy and anatomy. For this special workshop Popper, an E-RYT-500, will focus on fundamental postures that allow students to work deeply through layers of awareness towards relaxation, mental openness and creative freedom.

Cynthia Kling works primarily with students who have difficulties facing the frightening white page and helping them discover the forces within that give them the courage to write. She has recently become interested in animal medicine – specifically spirit animals – and will use this Native American tradition to introduce students to their own creatures as they make their springtime reappearance.

Yoga and Writing: Cracking Open the Creative Edge Weekend Retreat (April 26-28 2019)

In this weekend workshop in the magnificent Catskills, Brette Popper and Cynthia Kling will use the tools of yoga, meditation and writing to help you access your inner creativity and release the stories you were born to tell.

As spring makes her way down the mountains, streams begin to flow and tadpoles to hatch, you too will wake your sleepy senses through postures, breathing techniques, concentrations and creature wisdom.

What’s required? A generous spirit and a willingness to participate.

JENNY SCHUCK and TOBIE SCHUERFELD JUNE 7 – 9

June 7-9
Summer Catskills Yoga Retreat with Jenny Schuck

Jenny strives to create smart sequencing within the aligned vinyasa style. She is a student of Rodney Yee and completed her 500-hour training with Natasha Rizopoulis. The weekend will be mostly asana practice with a taste of her work ‘Stability for the Yoga Body’ – a series of exercises to create stability in the body made mobile by yoga practice – developed to prevent everyday injuries.

My favorite things to do at Heathen Hill: yoga, read in an Adirondack chair, hike, walk the labyrinth, play volleyball and badminton with friends and use the hot tub. And sometimes do nothing. There are breakfast items available in your house. We gather for lunch and dinner – the food is amazing – most of it grown on site. It’s a wonderful treat to sit with each other at eating times and chat about those things we never get to chat about as we run into and out of yoga class. At night, there are so many stars. I saw the milky way for the first time here. We’ll have either a bonfire or a movie night. Everything is optional – you can always sleep or sneak off to chat with a buddy or go antiquing.

Heathen Hill is about 2.5 hours from Danbury. Arrive Friday afternoon – an optional practice around 5pm – then dinner with the gang around 7pm. We’ll have two 90-minute sessions on Saturday, with time between for lounging or exploring. Then my friend Tobie Schuerfeld and I will co-teach a 2-hour session on Sunday morning, followed by a country brunch before we head home.

To register contact Jenny jenny@weareyogaculture.com

A Spring Retreat

Tobie believes that making space in the body to breathe is the most important part of the yoga practice. Her classes always tell a story whether they are moving towards a peak pose or have a specific theme. Tobie likes to warm up the body slowly and deliberately to allow students to deepen their awareness of movement and breath. She has been a student of Rodney Yee’s for the last 13 years . This weekend will include asana, breath awareness and meditation. The last class of the weekend will be co taught with the fabulous Jenny Shuck! Contact tschuerfeld45@comcast.net for information.
